🌿 rare Palo Verde Monsoon Beetle
It’s monsoon season in Tucson, Arizona where I live! All these Giant Palo Verde Beetle's are coming out from under ground much like the cicadas and flying around looking for love. They are gigantic!. This big crazy fella unfortunately flew into my salt water pool. We tried to save him, but we were too late by the time we found him and he just didn’t make it.
I’ve let him dry out in the sunshine and nestled his pretty little body into a beautiful little memorial glass coffin, surrounded by hand dyed babies breath, dried desert blossoms, a big dried Chryssanthamum flower, and a angel aura crystal point. The top is Acacia wood with a midnight Bluish black spell candle, dried Malo flower, tiny crystals, and messy candle drip art.
He is a very special treasure to be loved and adored and a rare find.
This little curiosity vial makes for precious little altar decor / tools or curiosity / oddity cabinet specimens, as well as a perfect gift for a nature or moth lover, or educational tool for school as children are fascinated by seeing these beautiful creatures.
Your glass art vessel will come packaged with care.
About the Palo Verde Beetle Derobrachus geminatuse : t’s that time of year again! Time for the palo verde beetles to descend on Tucson and fill the night sky with giant beetles flying around drunkenly looking for mates. These beetles are magical! I love them so much and never knew they even existed till I lived in Tucson. They are native to the American Southwest and northern Mexico. This longhorn winged beetle is commonly seen here around Phoenix in the mid-summer when they take to the air. Well, kind of. These beetles are awkward fliers and have a zig-zag flight pattern due to their hefty weight-to-wing ratio. Activity for this insect is mostly nocturnal and they are drawn to light. You might encounter one hurtling toward your porch light on a warm summer evening. The fully grown adult palo verde beetle is about 3-5 inches long, is shiny black, and has a thorax (neck) with black spikes. Its wings are a coffee-brown color. Bulky, curved, segmented antennae protrude forward in front of the beetle. Six legs propel this desert dweller over brush in search of a mate.
